Ayurveda is a holistic system of medicine from India that aims to provide guidance regarding food and lifestyle in order to maintain wellness. Yoga is one of the recommended therapies used in Ayurveda. Recommendations will often be different for each person regarding which foods, yoga poses and which lifestyle changes they should follow in order to be completely healthy.

Ayurveda understands that there are energetic forces that influence nature and human beings. These forces are called the Tridoshas. Each person has some aspect of each dosha: Pitta (fire), Vata (wind), Kapha (water). When the doshas are out of balance, the ayurvedic practicioner will make recommendations to either increase or disperse a particular dosha.
