According to Patanjali, the great ancient yogic sage, there are a number of major impediments to yoga - over eating, over exercising, too much public contact and speaking too loudly. For this century we should add one more - toxicity. Clearly we are living in a toxic world, not only chemically and environmentally but just simply due to the obvious challenges and stresses imposed on us in our contemporary life styles.

Every day our bodies face the formidable challenge of functioning properly in our chemically laden world. In fact, most people need to detoxify or cleanse some aspects of their life on a regular basis. Cleansing or Detoxification in holistic terms means ridding the body, mind, + spirit of unwanted, unneeded, toxic substances or influences that are detrimental to good health.

In the past, we could effectively detoxify our bodies by drinking water with lemon juice, enjoying a sauna or simply eating a healthy diet. Although our bodies are equipped with a natural detoxification process, primarily conducted by the liver and digestive tract, increasing physical, emotional and environmental pressures, such as stress, overwork and constant toxic absorption, have compromised our ability to detoxify naturally. In addition, most chemicals and toxins are derived from petroleum oil-based products. These oil-based byproducts are absorbed by the liver and other organs and are difficult to eliminate naturally. These pressures deplete the body’s reserve of essential vitamins, minerals and nutrients and obstruct its ability to absorb more of them. The liver and digestive system are responsible for breaking down the thousands of toxic chemicals to which we are exposed every day. These essential nutrients support the liver in the elimination of internal toxins (our own metabolisms, poor digestion, sluggish bowels, and hormones) and external toxins (cosmetics, food additives, cleaners, and plastics). Without the proper amounts of vitamins, minerals, nutrients, and healthy water, the body cannot support and protect itself. Our bodies now require additional measures in order to remove toxins and maintain health.

The right detoxification program can help rid the body of toxins it cannot eliminate on its own due to the amount and chemical composition of the toxins. These detoxification programs are designed to remove toxins and repair the liver and digestive system from previous toxic exposure. Over time, toxic exposure can result in long-term physical and emotional damage to the liver and digestive tract. Typical symptoms include fatigue, bloating, puffiness, yeast problems, aching joints and muscles, inflammation, sleep disturbances and digestive disturbances. These physical symptoms often correlate with heightened states of emotion, anger, depression, frustration, nervousness, resentment, indecision and worry. Through the correct detoxifcation program, your body’s underlying toxic load and the indicative symptoms are significantly reduced.

Most people experience remarkable transformations after completing a detoxifcation program and emerge with a renewed sense of vigor, vitality and energy that they have not experienced in recent years.
