Music in Yoga Class

Music in yoga class is an interesting and divisive topic in the yoga community. Many teachers in the yoga community are quick to categorize music used in yoga classes as ‘not serious’ yoga. Some of my earliest teachers told me that using music in class was like ‘cheating’, because the inspiration would be externally driven (by the music) and not come from within. But I often wondered… what would some of the greatest musicians say about that comment? When composing music I would imagine that the artist wants their music to inspire us, to uplift us, to connect us to our emotions …  and isn’t that a beautiful part of yoga as well?

Here is a great article from Yoga Journal Magazine on How to set the tone in yoga classes with music
