About Boston Yoga

Boston Yoga was started in 2000 as a site dedicated to promoting yoga in the greater Boston area. We remain committed to that vision and now encompass a more global reach as we promote yoga events, bloggers and news from all over the world. Our hope is to create a vibrant dialogue within the yoga and wellness community.

After Toby Kumin and Natalie Smith completed teacher training with Ana Forrest in 2000, they started Boston Yoga bringing yoga into the workplace through a Corporate Yoga program. The Boston Yoga web site became a central resource for yoga studios, teachers and students all over the Greater Boston area. While training with and working for Baron Baptiste, Toby and Natalie also helped to run workshops with some of the most influential yoga teachers in the world including Ana Forrest, Beryl Bender Birch, Shiva Rea, Shandor Remete, Krishna Das and many others. In addition to teaching classes and workshops at the Baptiste Power Yoga Institute, Sports Club/LA and Exhale, Toby and Natalie have opened studios in such diverse places as Nantucket Island and Bangkok, Thailand. They collaborated and created specialty workshops and helped train and mentor aspiring teachers. Reflecting their belief that yoga can be enjoyed by people at all stages of life, they developed a chair yoga class for seniors and brought that to assisted living and senior homes.

Toby continues to reside in the Boston area and currently teaches at  Equinox. She also has extensive training in Thai Bodywork and prenatal yoga, and offers private classes and workshops in those practices.

In 2013, Natalie relocated to New Zealand with her family. She has been immersing herself in the greater New Zealand yoga community, teaching workshops and consulting for a new retreat center, Aro-Ha, near Queenstown, New Zealand.
